Slider
Enhanced zoom steps: smoothly changing scale pulling a slider.
Users cannot only quickly jump to a specific level of detail, but they can also pull the slider to see how the map view changes before the map refreshes. Thus, the vertical or horizontal steps widget is further enhanced. Clicking on the slider and holding the mouse button while moving the mouse up and down (dragging), the slider moves and a red rectangle shows the users what the map view shall be once the map has refreshed.
The position of the slider indicates the relative scale of the current map view. The sence of scale is further improved by the change in brightness of the background. The smaller the scale, the lighter the background is. The zoom buttons at both extremes of the steps also enable users to sequentially change the scale of the map, but the change of the map view is not communicated to the users until the map has refreshed. Just like the drag hand widget on the NG MapMachine, this widgets uses JavaScript extensively .
